"Island of Sunshine"
The name Sal means “salt” in Portuguese, a reference to the island’s history, as it was known in the 18th century. century, salt extraction flourished here.
Sal is often called the “island of sunshine” because of its constant sunshine and mild winds.
The average annual temperature ranges between 25-30 degrees Celsius, making it an excellent holiday destination all year round.
One of the island’s biggest attractions is Santa Maria beach, which stretches for 8 km, with soft white sand and crystal clear turquoise waters. Ideal for swimming, surfing, kite-surfing and diving. In the surrounding waters, divers will find colourful coral reefs and exotic marine life.
